Is your B2B Marketing Strategy Ready For Autumn?
Databroker Summer Series - Part 8 of 8 – Building Your Best Q4 Starts Now
And just like that, summer is nearly done. When we started this series back in July, the idea was simple: the businesses that want a strong autumn shouldn’t wait until autumn to start thinking about pipeline, data and marketing.
Well, September is now here. If you’ve spent the summer getting things ready, brilliant. If you haven’t, don’t panic - there’s still plenty of time to make a difference. The rest of September gives you a useful window to get your sales and marketing in shape for October, November and the final push towards Christmas.
So, for the eighth and final part of our Summer Series, rather than introduce another subject, I thought we’d bring everything together into one practical B2B marketing strategy checklist for autumn and winter.
In 30 Seconds
Over the last seven blogs, we’ve covered the foundations of good B2B sales and marketing: building pipeline early, improving your CRM, understanding the cost of bad data, targeting the right businesses, reaching the right decision-makers, keeping your data accurate and then actually putting that data to work.
Now’s the time to put all of those pieces together. If your target market is clear, your data is accurate, your contacts are relevant and your campaign plan is ready, you’re in a pretty good place for Q4. If not, September isn’t too late to fix it.
Your Autumn B2B Marketing Strategy Checklist
1. Is There Enough in Your Pipeline?
This is where the series started. Back in July, we talked about why your September pipeline actually starts months earlier. That’s still relevant now, but the dates have moved on. The question today is whether you’ve got enough opportunities entering the top of the funnel to support October, November and December.
If the answer is no, waiting until October won’t improve things. Look at what’s currently in your pipeline, what’s genuinely likely to convert and where the gaps are. If you need more prospects, more outreach or a new audience, September is the time to get moving.

2. Would Your Sales Team Trust Your CRM?
Blog 2 was our Summer CRM MOT, but there’s no reason the MOT has to stop when summer does. Ask the people who actually use your CRM whether they trust it. Are there duplicates? Missing telephone numbers? Old contacts? Empty fields? Companies nobody has spoken to for years? All of these errors cost time, money, effort and lead to lower sales and reduced morale.

A CRM doesn’t have to be perfect, but if your salespeople regularly work around it, create their own spreadsheets or question whether the information is right, that’s a warning sign.
3. Do You Know What Bad Data Is Costing You?
We tackled B2B data cost in Blog 3 because poor data rarely arrives with an invoice attached. Instead, the cost appears in wasted calls, bounced emails, missed opportunities and salespeople spending their time correcting information rather than selling.
Going into the busiest part of the year, those little inefficiencies matter. If you’re increasing campaign activity during autumn, poor-quality data simply means you’re increasing the amount of waste as well.

4. Are You Targeting the Right Businesses?
This was probably one of the biggest themes running through the whole series: more prospects doesn’t automatically mean more opportunities.
Blog 4 - Are You Focusing on the Right Businesses? – Read Blog 4
Before launching another autumn campaign, look again at your best customers. Which sectors, company sizes, locations and types of organisation consistently work well for you? Then ask whether your current prospect audience actually looks like them. I’d much rather start Q4 with 5,000 genuinely relevant prospects than 25,000 businesses that only vaguely fit the brief.
5. Are You Reaching the People Who Can Actually Buy?
Finding the right business only gets you so far. Blog 5 looked at B2B decision maker data and the importance of identifying the people who actually influence a purchase.

That doesn’t automatically mean the Managing Director. Depending on what you’re selling, it could be Finance, Operations, Procurement, HR, IT, Marketing or several people across the same organisation. Before your next campaign goes out, check both halves of your targeting: right company, right person.
6. Has Your Data Kept Up With the Market?
Even if your data was brilliant when you bought or built it, the businesses within it haven’t stood still.
Blog 6 - Why Good B2B Data Doesn’t Stay Good Forever – Read Blog 6
People have changed jobs, companies have moved, grown, merged or closed and new businesses have entered your target market. Blog 6 looked at why B2B data cleansing should be an ongoing process rather than something you only think about when bounce rates become a problem. Before you put more autumn budget behind your campaigns, make sure the information underneath them is still doing its job.
7. Are You Actually Using Your Business Data Properly?
Last week we moved from getting the data right to actually doing something with it. Email, telephone, LinkedIn, direct mail and account-based marketing don’t need to operate in separate worlds. The same well-targeted business data can sit underneath all of them, while segmentation allows you to change the message for different audiences.

And don’t forget the follow-up. A prospect showing interest is only valuable if somebody does something with that information.
So, Are You Ready for Autumn?
Seven questions. None of them particularly complicated.
- Do you have enough pipeline?
- Do you trust your CRM?
- Is poor data wasting time and budget?
- Are you targeting the right companies?
- Are you reaching the right people?
- Is your information still accurate?
- And do you have a proper plan for putting it to work?
You don’t need to rip everything up and start again if the answer to one or two of those is no. In fact, quite often the quickest improvements come from fixing what’s already there. Clean the CRM. Refresh the contacts. Tighten the audience. Add the information you’re missing. Segment the campaign. Give sales a clearer follow-up plan. Small improvements across each stage can add up to a much stronger Q4.
From the Databroker Desk
If there’s one thing I’d take from writing these eight blogs, it’s that good B2B marketing rarely comes down to one magic ingredient.
Buying another 20,000 records won’t automatically solve your pipeline problem. Cleansing your CRM won’t help much if you’re targeting the wrong businesses. Finding the perfect decision-maker won’t matter if your proposition isn’t relevant, and even brilliant business data won’t create opportunities if nobody actually uses it.
The best results tend to come when all of those things work together. That’s also why we try to take a brief-led approach at Databroker. Sometimes a client needs a completely new audience. Sometimes they need to improve what they’ve already got. Sometimes they need better decision-maker information, a bespoke build, help with targeting or a better way of putting their data to work.
The starting point is understanding what you’re trying to achieve this autumn and winter.
If You Remember One Thing From the Series…
When we started this series in July, the message was Building Your Best Q4 Starts Now. Two months later, I think that still stands. The only difference is that “now” really does mean now. Autumn is underway, Christmas will arrive quicker than any of us expect, and businesses will soon be thinking about year-end targets and 2027 plans. The work you do during the rest of September can still have a big impact on what October, November and December look like.
Know who you want to reach. Keep your data accurate. Find the right people. Use several channels where it makes sense. Follow opportunities up properly. And keep doing it.
Thanks for following our Summer Series. Now let’s make the rest of 2026 count.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should a B2B marketing strategy include?
A good B2B marketing strategy should define your target audience, the decision-makers you need to reach, the data supporting your campaigns, the channels you’ll use, your sales follow-up process and how you’ll measure results.
Is September too late to build a Q4 sales pipeline?
No. Earlier preparation helps, but September still gives businesses time to generate new prospects and build opportunities for October, November and December. The important thing is not to keep delaying activity.
Why is business data important to a B2B marketing strategy?
Business data helps identify the organisations and decision-makers most relevant to your products or services. Accurate data also supports better segmentation, more relevant campaigns and more efficient sales prospecting.
How can I improve my B2B marketing before Q4?
Start by reviewing your pipeline, CRM, target audience and existing prospect data. Look for missing or outdated information, check that you’re reaching relevant decision-makers and make sure your marketing activity has a clear sales follow-up plan.
Should I buy new business data or cleanse my existing CRM?
It depends on what you’re trying to achieve. New data can help you enter new markets or reach new prospects, while cleansing and enhancing existing CRM data can uncover more value from an audience you’ve already built. Often, the best approach involves a combination of both.
How can Databroker help with autumn and winter campaigns?
Databroker can help with B2B data lists, bespoke audience builds, decision-maker data, data cleansing and enhancement, targeting and segmentation, international data and tools such as Dynamo to help turn business data into opportunities.
