2nd August 2012 - London 2012 - Who makes the games tick?
August
2012
There are so many people who help to put on the spectacle which is London 2012. When you make a list of the important roles, most of us will note down the volunteers, athletes, physios, police and so on. On top of that, there’s all the people employed by the games and the thousands of people who’ve been planning the event for years.
Data Broker had their first experience of London 2012 yesterday at the slalom kayak event and boy were we impressed! Right from the moment we got off the train, we were greeted by the smiling faces of the very helpful volunteers, who guided us to the venue. Granted, on arrival at the venue, security is tight, but it was far smoother than any airport I’ve been to! The volunteers, supplemented by RAF and Army personnel and armed police, were all very gracious and efficient. Inside the venue, everything was well laid out, signposted and more importantly the stadium was excellent. It’s fair to say that overall, we were pretty damn impressed!
Whilst the media focus on the number of medals won and the performance of our Team GB athletes, it’s not all about winning. Hosting an Olympics is the pillar of any city’s achievements and so far, London has really surpassed itself. Whilst the radio, TV and newspapers will focus on the results, we should remember that every person who is involved with the organisation is doing their bit for our country.
We already have a pretty high profile across the globe, however we can still do more. Producing such an inspiring and extraordinary games only works to improve our profile. So remember all those cleaners, ticket scanners, first aiders, armed forces personnel, police and fire staff, caterers and every other one of the thousands of “games makers” – these guys lay the foundations for such an amazing event.
