30th July 2012 - Data Broker Loving London 2012 Sports Smorgasbord
July
2012
Weekends were designed for doing very little and London 2012 is giving me the perfect opportunity to spend every hour of the day (except Mon-Fri, 9-5) watching sport. In a normal year, we restrict ourselves to the sports which we enjoy; moreover we are often restricted to watching the same sports which the masses want to see. Rarely are fencing, beach volleyball, hockey, rowing, judo and the rest given airtime by any major broadcasters.

Data Broker are sporting fanatics, whilst we enjoy our football, rugby union, golf and cricket, which tend to dominate the airwaves. We also enjoy all other sports, so the Olympics are a great opportunity for us to indulge in this passion. What a first weekend we’ve had!

The plethora of sporting events this weekend included a stunning win for the GB ladies in the beach volleyball, fuelled by 16,000 fans backing them throughout. Mixed results in the road races for the Brits, but hundreds of thousands of people lined the routes through Surrey and the capital and over 15,000 watched GB women thrash Japan 4-0 in the hockey. These are not your archetypal mainstream sports, but the Olympic spirit breaks these common boundaries.

I applaud the fact that the British public appear to be getting right behind every sport in the Olympics and I congratulate the athletes who’ve competed thus far. Data broker’s athlete of the moment is Michele Frangilli, the Italian archer who achieved gold in the men’s team event this weekend. He is a proper sportsman. With the final arrow of the tournament, an 8 would have given them silver, a 9 would have been a draw and a 10 meant gold.

That takes balls!
